Nationality france date undated, no later than 1910 when he exhibited it at the ans show in new oyrk fabric bronze, 80mm x 58mm, 159 grams artist(s) pierre-alexandre morlon (1878 1951). A beautiful adn much sought after aviation medal and a tribute to the medallic art of pierre-alexandre morlon, one of the most famous of french nouveau and deco artists. Probably his most famous and arguably one of his best works. Morlon was one of france's most important medallists of the first 1/3rd of the 20th century, one who began his career in the decorative traditions of art nouveau and transitioned to art deco later in his career. His best known work from his nouveau phase is probably this piece, navigation arienne, and from his deco phase his fruit adn flowers series. No collection of french medallic art is complete without an example of morlon's work. Scarce. References(s)mark jones in the art of the medal deals with morlon's contributions on pages 152 and 155. Paris mint catalog v3 paegs 267 to 277 lists 46 of his works.
Morlon exhibited 18 pieces including this one at the ans exhibition of contemporay medals in new york in 1910. See pages 218 and 219 of the exhibition catalog. Link(s)about 10 of morlon's works can be seen at www.
